Hello! I've been watching since AGDQ 2015, and wanted to donate because of how important GDQ marathons are to me. In the summer of 2015, I had a traumatic experience that left me with PTSD. This left me unable to deal with my apartment being silent, and so I desperately searched for something to break the silence. I then remembered the GDQ VODs, and found that they were perfect, with the mix of awesome gameplay sounds and great commentary. I kept this up with them in the backround for 8 months until I was able to get to a better situation and find more help to start treating my PTSD.
After watching so many VODs, I was drawn into the community itself, and started bugfinding for Dust: An Elysian Tail (Shoutouts to the people of the Dust speedrunning community!). I love how positive and inclusive the speedrunning community is (as I know I'm not the only transgender woman speedrunner), and I hope to make it to a GDQ someday!
I also chose to donate during Crypt of the NecroDancer because this game helped give me a way to escape from the symptoms of PTSD and depression as my life was falling apart. This game is seriously my favorite, with really fun gameplay and awesome soundtracks, and I'm so grateful to the team who made it for how good it was for my mental health. I was so proud when I finally cleared an Aria Low% run after trying for a year, and it's definitely a sign of how great this game is that I still love and play the game even after finishing that difficult challenge.
Thank you so much again to the speedrunning community, the organizers and crew of GDQ marathons, and the creators of Dust: An Elysian Tail and Crypt of the NecroDancer. I can honestly say that my life has been so much improved by each and every one of you. <3
