So I was kinda down going into this marathon because on Sunday I had to dump over half my checking account- multiple thousand dollars- into one unplanned purchase. I was going to scale back my donations a bit to align with what I had left. But this afternoon I got into a chat with another long-time watcher on a Twitch side-channel and realized something: I’m still VERY well off, all things considered. What if, instead of a technical crisis, it had been cancer? It would have been my life at stake, not just my lifestyle. It could have been 3 or 4 or 5 times what I had to spend, and that bill could have been the first of many, as more and more treatment options failed. It could have hit me when I had a tenth, or a hundredth, of what I have in life savings to begin with. I may have hit a rough patch recently, but things could be SO much worse. So here’s to perspective, and to catching up to where I SHOULD be in donations this far into the marathon. Here’s to making cancer something that’s caught so early, and is so easy to treat, that it’s no longer a life-changing emergency. Here’s to… ok, this is still me, SAVE THOSE ANIMALS! |
