Contractor - Event Programming Lead

Summary

As the Event Programming Lead for Games Done Quick, you will be responsible for the 10,000 foot view of the schedule of our mainline events (Awesome Games Done Quick and Summer Games Done Quick). You will work closely with the GDQ interdepartmental teams to develop compelling narratives and storytelling that align with the Games Done Quick and our charity partner’s mission and values. You will oversee the scheduling and placement of multimedia content, event branding, and promotional materials, ensuring they resonate with our diverse audience. Additionally, you will be responsible for liaising with our prizes, interstitial, and committee teams to balance each team’s needs and objectives for broadcast time while keeping the event on schedule.

Responsibilities

Creative Direction
  • Develop and maintain the overall creative vision for GDQ’s event branding, promotional materials and schedule
  • Oversee the conceptualization and execution of visual and narrative elements for both digital and physical media for each event
  • Ensure all creative output is aligned with the organization’s goals, values, and brand identity
  • Lead the ideation process for new concepts, themes, and visual identities for each event
Team Leadership
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., committee, interstitials, sponsorships, prizing) to ensure cohesive scheduling of broadcast segments
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to interdepartmental teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment
Content Development
  • Oversee the creation of multimedia content, including event graphics, videos, social media assets, and promotional materials.
  • Ensure that all content is engaging, high-quality, and delivered on time.
  • Innovate new ways to enhance the viewer experience through creative storytelling and design.
Event Design & Execution
  • Work closely with interdepartmental teams to ensure creative concepts are executed effectively during live events
  • Lead the creative development of event themes and stage designs
  • Oversee the creation of engaging visual content for broadcast, social media, and marketing campaigns
Project Management
  • Manage multiple creative project simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget
  • Set timelines, allocate people and resources, and monitor project progress to meet deadlines
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external vendors, and partners as needed

Application Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a Creative / Management role, preferably within the gaming, entertainment, or live event industries
  • Proven track record of leading successful creative projects from concept to completion.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of creative projects
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Strong understanding of gaming culture and familiarity with the speedrunning community
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • MUST be currently legally authorized to work in the United States of America
  • MUST be 18 years or older
  • Ability to travel to 2 or more Games Done Quick events a year
  • Ability to competently use software such as Slack and Google Workspace
  • Self-motivation, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize important tasks to meet deadlines
Bonus Points If You....
  • Have experience in live event production and broadcast design
  • Have experience working with non-profit organizations or charity events
  • Have familiarity with streaming platforms and digital content distribution
  • Are an active member of communities within the video game speedrunning, or esports ecosystems
  • Have availability to attend off cycle GDQ events such as PAX West/East or GDQx at TwitchCon

Must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States of America

Miscellaneous

Work Location: Remote, with need to travel during event periods.

Job Type: This position is a contract position, paid per mainline event with potential for additional events during the year.
