Volunteer Manager - Contractor

Position Summary

The Volunteer Manager will lead the planning and scheduling of all volunteer positions onsite and offsite during Games Done Quick events. Reporting to the Event Directors, this position will collaborate with all departments that recruit volunteers. This position requires outstanding management and communication skills, promoting teamwork and collaboration across several disciplines within Games Done Quick.

The ideal candidate for Volunteer Manager is a leader with experience constructing schedules and coordinating volunteers, evaluating and refining existing processes to provide and improve upon the experience for volunteers at Games Done Quick events.

Responsibilities

Games Done Quick teams work remotely between events and attend events onsite. Flexibility is key.

Pre-Event (Remote)

  • Supervise and assist the Volunteer Coordinators to ensure they are fulfilling their duties and that any roadblocks are addressed
  • Facilitate communication between departments to source volunteers for over 20 different roles
  • Ensure all volunteer candidates adhere to Games Done Quick's guidelines, rules and standards
  • Compile all volunteer application data into one place for Volunteer Coordinators to work with
  • Ensure volunteer applications and scheduling software are prepared for each event
  • Ensure volunteer coordinators create schedules for their department, using scheduling software, ensuring adherence to local labor laws
  • Answer inquiries or forwarding them to the correct person that are sent to the volunteer inquiry email
  • Assist with volunteer accommodations as necessary
  • Maintain and create records of volunteer evaluations
  • Interface with service vendors as necessary
  • Attend and schedule meetings via phone or online meeting software
  • Ensure that the volunteer coordinators meet all necessary deadlines, and assist as necessary
  • Work with other departments to make the arrangements necessary for Volunteers onsite
  • Gather feedback post event from the Volunteers and the Volunteer Coordination team to identify problems and solutions and improve processes for future events

During Events (Onsite)

  • Ensure volunteer orientations are given by the respective Volunteer Coordinators
  • Adjust and maintain the volunteer schedule to cover for gaps or sudden drops
  • Cover shifts as necessary to ensure proper coverage

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States of America
  • Possession of a functional computer and phone with the ability to use software such as Slack, Discord. Google Suite, Zoom, Initlive, and a web browser
  • Experience constructing work schedules
  • Self-motivation, organizational skills, and experience in project management
  • Ability to develop, communicate, and execute on plans
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to travel to Games Done Quick events
  • Proven experience in team management

  • Have familiarity with Bloomerang (Formerly Initlive)
  • Are an active member of communities within the video game, speedrunning, and esports ecosystems
  • Have experience running events
  • Possess experience in teaching or public speaking

Host Volunteer Co-Coordinator - Contractor

Position Summary

The Host Volunteer Co-Coordinator is expected to work as part of a two-person team to assemble, run, and support the team of volunteer hosts at onsite events: Awesome Games Done Quick, Summer Games Done Quick and Games Done Quick Express. This includes selecting hosts for the team (for example by running an audition process), providing training and orientation to hosts, and managing any issues that may arise throughout the event related to the hosting team such as schedule changes/backup shifts, feedback, and cross-department procedure updates.

Responsibilities

Games Done Quick teams work remotely between events and attend events on-site. As a Host Volunteer Co-Coordinator, your responsibilities will be a mix of offsite pre-event duties and on-site event work. All responsibilities are shared jointly with the other Host Volunteer Co-Coordinator and the two of you will work closely together as a team.

Hotfix Special Event Showrunner - Contractor

Position Summary

The Hotfix Special Event Showrunner will be responsible for planning and hosting weekend event specials on Saturday/Sunday to fill gaps in the GDQ Hotfix weekend schedule. The purpose of this position is to ensure Hotfix has consistent broadcasts during weekends. Weekend schedules are planned one (1) month in advance, to ensure there is adequate time to plan and prepare talent for shows. Additionally, this position may be asked to cover weekday schedule gaps, if needed.

The ideal candidate for the Hotfix Special Event Showrunner is a self-starter with experience planning events or event schedules, organizing and coordinating talent, has experience in hosting, emceeing, or engaging with an audience via streaming, and is an active member of the speedrunning community.

This position requires outstanding communication and organizational skills, teamwork, collaboration, and experience in streaming or hosting on live broadcasts.

This position is fully remote and is contracted, with opportunity for contract renewal. Pay rate is $30/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Planning six (6) hour live broadcasts on the Game Done Quick Twitch channel on assigned weekends
  • Sourcing and outreach to talent for each special
  • Organizing and preparing talent for each special, in the GDQ Hotfix Discord
  • Performing all administrative tasks related to planning, execution, and post-production of each special, maintained in our project management software
  • Communicating with GDQ production, social media, and post-production teams
  • Hosting each broadcast in a professional and entertaining manner
  • Monitoring the progress of the show to help fill time if necessary and engage talent or prompt commentary
  • Reading GDQ announcements regarding Hotfix, or upcoming GDQ events during each show in an engaging manner

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States of America
  • Possession of a functional computer, microphone, headphones or earbuds, and stable internet connection with the ability to use software such as Slack, Discord, and OBS
  • Weekend Availability between 12:30PM - 7PM ET
  • Experience planning events or organizing schedules
  • Experience with outreach and communicating with talent
  • Self-motivation, organizational skills, and experience in project management
  • Ability to develop, communicate, and execute a Run of Show
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Have experience streaming
  • Have experience hosting gaming events and/or recurring live broadcasts
  • Are an active member of video game and speedrunning communities
  • Possess experience in public speaking
