Frame Fatales Submission Guide

Overview

Thank you for considering submitting a run to a Frame Fatales event! This guide is meant to assist potential runners in preparing high quality submissions.

The Games Committee is a group of Fatales who review the runs, decide the games list, and schedule the runs and incentives for the event. We are your resource and advocates, please feel free to ping @FF Games Committee or @jenneticist if you have questions!

Submission Website

To submit your runs for Frame Fatales, please go to the following website: https://submissions.gamesdonequick.com/

Logging in to the site is done with your GDQ account. GDQ recently updated their website which required making a new login. If you have not yet made a new GDQ username/login, you will need to do so.

Once logged in, you will be sent to the profile page. Here, you can fill in your display name, pronouns, and Discord username.

When you save and go back to the profile landing page (https://submissions.gamesdonequick.com/profile) there are some options for you to change if desired. You will also need to verify your membership to the FF discord by hitting a verification button at the bottom of the page. You will receive a Discord DM from Gatekeeper Faith to complete the verification process. At that point you can enter the submission portal by looking to the right hand side of the page for the current Frame Fatales event!

Speedrun Submissions

Speedrun submissions are the bulk of what is shown at Frame Fatales events!

You do not need to be a WR holder or even have your time submitted on speedrun.com for consideration. The Games Committee will compare submitted runs against general runs for each game, but there is no requirement for a certain leaderboard position or margin from WR for our events.

Frame Fatales is not a 24/7 event, therefore runs that are 3 hours or longer will have a more difficult time getting accepted. We suggest offering multiple categories and lengths of runs when possible to increase chances of acceptance.

Each participant is allowed to submit 4 unique games, with 3 categories of each game.

Speedrun Submission Videos

Requirements

  • Video must show the run or showcase in its entirety
  • The video must be of your gameplay
    • All members of a race or co-op submission must submit
  • The run estimate should represent an average no-reset run, with slight extra time to account for potential mistakes.
    • Please do not overly pad your estimate — there is no penalty for going over estimate, and inaccurate estimates can cause issues for scheduling.
    • If you significantly improve your estimate after the submission deadline, please inform the Games Committee in the Discord server so we can update our scheduling accordingly.

Recommended

  • We highly suggest providing commentary in your submission video. Commentary can consist of describing the game and gameplay, outlining important speedrunning strategies, and also give an example of your energy and presentation style.
  • It can assist the Committee to provide timestamps in the description to point to exciting or unique moments in the run. You can describe glitches, new strats, or other highlights!

Showcase Submissions

Submissions to the event do not have to be speedruns! We welcome rhythm showcases, art segments, and other general gaming showcases that are speedrun adjacent. Get creative! Just because something hasn’t been done before in a Frame Fatales event doesn’t mean we aren’t interested in it!

For the submission video, please emulate what the showcase would look like on the day of the stream. Provide an estimate for scheduling, and let the committee know if this can be shortened or extended based on need.

What is the Games Committee looking for in a submission?

To help make your submission stand out, here are some things the Games Committee looks for when going over your submission:

  • How is the run/showcase presented in the game and category description? Tell us what the game is about, make us excited about the game before we even see the video! What makes this game stand out? What should we look forward to in the run?
  • How long ago did you perform the run/showcase? The older the video is, the less it could represent your current skill set or run. For example, a run which is 3 years old could use old strategies which are no longer used, making the run more or less exciting. More recent submission videos also give us a better sense of your current proficiency level.
  • What kind of incentives does the run/showcase have? Incentives are never required - but it could help give the committee an idea what is possible in terms of fundraising with the run!
  • Has your run or run’s category been showcased at the last event? Try submitting new categories to showcase other parts of the game! The Games Committee aims to showcase new runs and categories over those seen in the previous event.

Incentives

Incentives are relating to a run that viewers can “unlock” or “vote for” by donating towards. Exciting, funny, impressive, and plain ol’ silly incentives help raise money for our charity partners!

Targets

Target Incentives are one of the most common incentives. Example of targets for Frame Fatales have been an extracurricular activity during the run/after the run, showing off an impressive skill or modifying the run by increasing difficulty.

Examples:

  • Upgrading the difficulty of the game before the run starts
  • Doing an optional, memorable fight during your run
  • A Glitch Exhibition after the run has been completed
  • Having an optional encounter with a fan-favorite character

Bidwars

Bidwars incentives come in two varieties, Choice Bidwars and Viewer Submitted Bidwars.

Choice Bidwars gives a donor a set amount of choices defined by the runner. For example, an outfit choice for a character, or whether to “Save or Kill” the animals in Metroid.

Viewer Submitted Bidwars give donors the freedom to submit their own suggestions, which can then be donated towards by other donors. A common example would be naming a character in Final Fantasy, or nicknaming a Pokémon. Any submitted choice will be vetted by the donations team before it appears as a choice.

We typically are looking for incentives that don’t add too much time to the schedule – we usually will shy away from incentives that are more than ten minutes or so long. If you have any questions about whether or not something would work as an incentive, please ping @FF Games Committee or @jenneticist in Discord and we would love to chat about your ideas!
