Contractor - Hotfix Showrunner

Summary

The Hotfix Showrunner will be responsible for planning and hosting recurring bi-weekly shows as part of the Games Done Quick Hotfix show roster which are live streamed on Twitch and archived on YouTube. The purpose of this position is to provide entertaining speedrunning or speedrunning adjacent programming to the GDQ audience between events. 

The ideal candidate for the Hotfix Showrunner position is a self-starter with experience planning events or event schedules, organizing and coordinating talent, has experience in hosting, emceeing, or engaging with an audience via streaming, and is an active member of the speedrunning community.

This position requires outstanding communication and organizational skills, teamwork, collaboration, and experience in streaming or hosting on live broadcasts.

We are currently looking for showrunners with availability for the following timeslots, beginning November 2024:

  • Monday 7PM ET
  • Monday 10PM ET
  • Wednesday 7PM ET

This position is fully remote and is contracted, with opportunity for contract renewal. The show will have a 1 episode probationary period prior to fully onboarding as GDQ staff.

Application Requirements

  • Possession of a functional computer, microphone, headphones or earbuds, and stable internet connection with the ability to use software such as Slack, Discord, and OBS.
  • Weeknight availability - shows begin at 7PM and 10PM Eastern Time (EST/EDT) and run for approximately 3 hours each
  • Experience planning events or organizing schedules
  • Experience with outreach and communicating with talent
  • Self-motivation, organizational skills, and experience in project management
  • Ability to develop, communicate, and execute a Run of Show
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Possess experience in public speaking

Contractor - Frame Fatales Head of Sponsorships

Summary

This position will be expected to work with Frame Fatales Leads and Games Done Quick management in finding and securing sponsors and other partners for Frame Fatales events. You will also work to maintain relationships with existing sponsors.

Frame Fatales is a community of women and femmes who are interested in speedrunning, charity events, and gaming.

This position is fully remote and is contracted, with opportunity for contract renewal. Pay rate is $30/hour, up to a cap of $1,000, with the opportunity to request more hours if the cap is reached.

Responsibilities

Games Done Quick (GDQ) and Frame Fatales (FF) Teams work remotely between events, and attend onsite if relevant to their direct work. Being in charge of sponsorships means the bulk of your responsibilities will take place in between events, with support during the event to handle sponsorships related tasks. 

Pre-Event Work Summary

  • Work with our Design Lead and charities to build up a sponsorship deck for potential sponsors.
  • With help from the FF Leads, use your contacts in the industry to reach out to potential sponsors.
  • Using the sponsorship deck as a foundation, negotiate donations and/or equipment for the Frame Fatales events.
  • Ensure sponsorship contracts are updated and signed on time from both parties. 
  • Work with various staff members to build out an ad schedule for each event.
  • Work with sponsors to ensure that assets arrive for our tech team on time for each event.
  • Organize and distribute sponsor copy to our social media and hosting teams from the sponsors.

During AND Post-Event Work Summary

  • Ensure that sponsor terms are met at the event, such as ad plays and sponsorship mentions.
  • Send out mid-week and post-event updates with sponsor and event metrics to all of our sponsors. 
  • Maintain relationships with sponsors after each event, with the goal of facilitating repeat sponsor agreements.

  • Ability to work during the weeks of Frost Fatales and Flame Fatales, which typically occur in March and August
  • Ability to work between events to facilitate sponsorship agreements for upcoming event cycles
  • Ability to competently use software such as Slack and Google Workspace
  • Strong communication and negotiating skills
  • Experience in the video game industry
  • Up to date contacts with various people in the video game industry
  • Possession of a functional computer and smart phone
  • Self-motivation, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize important tasks to meet deadlines

Full-Time, Salary - Hotfix Manager

Summary

Games Done Quick is looking for a full-time Manager for the GDQ Hotfix, our daily speedrunning programming. The GDQ Hotfix manager will be the main point of contact regarding Hotfix content on the Games Done Quick channel (streamed on Twitch, archived on YouTube). This is achieved by managing the work and communicating between program showrunners and teams both within and outside of the organization.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Development

  • Manage a team of showrunners by providing support and guidance to help further grow their content, with the goal of building up and showcasing individual speedrunning communities as well as the GDQ Hotfix as a brand and series of shows
  • Ensure the GDQ Hotfix team is aligned with the goals of the Hotfix program and GDQ organization. Provide clear direction, support professional growth, listen to and act upon showrunner and team feedback, and foster a positive, collaborative work environment

Scheduling

  • Plan, organize, and oversee the weekly Hotfix schedule and ensure the team is prepared to deliver high-quality content
  • Populate the weekly Hotfix schedule for both the website and stream overlays
  • Verify talent statuses and that all talent is prepared and cleared for broadcast
  • Ensure consistent recurring content and work with showrunners to fill in gaps in the schedule when needs arise
  • Coordinate schedules, plan and conduct outreach regarding one-off shows, and build and maintain working relationships with other organizations

Performance Management & Analysis

  • Monitor and optimize the financial performance of the Hotfix program. Develop strategies to increase viewer engagement as well as sponsorships, ensuring the Hotfix program maintains self-sufficiency
  • Track key performance metrics related to viewership, revenue and team efficiency to make informed decisions and adjustments to improve the overall success of the Hotfix program
  • Gather feedback and performance insights for Hotfix shows near each renewal period as part of each show’s performance evaluation. Host meetings with each showrunner to go over performance, goal setting, and show renewal statuses

Communication

  • Promote GDQ Hotfix during charity GDQ Events, such as AGDQ/SGDQ, Frame Fatales, and GDQx
  • Communicate company and community updates within the GDQ Hotfix team, and vice-versa
  • Communicate changes in protocol with all involved, including support staff, showrunners, talent, and GDQ staff
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all Hotfix-related matters, maintaining open and effective communication with internal teams, external partners, and the GDQ community
  • Draft meeting agendas and run Hotfix meetings with all involved parties

Application Requirements

  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience in managing teams, particularly in a remote environment, across multiple time zones with varying availability.
  • Financial Acumen: Experience with budgeting, revenue management, or financial oversight in a media, entertainment, or digital content setting. Ability to develop strategies that align content with revenue goals.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and effectively to a variety of stakeholders
  • Scheduling: Adept at managing a schedule while collaborating with different teams
Bonus Points If You:
  • Are an active member of gaming communities (speedrun, video game, esports, etc)
  • Have experience with Twitch streaming, YouTube video content, and short-form video production
  • Managed teams within a broadcast production environment or have experience with broadcast production
  • Worked with recurring shows in the past
  • Are familiar with the following (or similar) software: Google Workspace, Monday.com, Slack, Discord

The position is fully remote, with relocation assistance to the GDQ studio area offered, if desired. Will need to travel to Games Done Quick events within the United States twice a year.
