Join us for a celebration of Black speedrunning talent and BLACK JOY as we backflip through ninja stories, backdash to world records, puzzle solve at mind-boggling speeds, and randomize our lives in two fully loaded days of back to back runs, interviews, and your favorite recurring Black hosts.
Juneteenth 2024 has come and past, just as fast as the PBs and WRs that were had.
If you're interested in running in our all-Black speedrunning events, your next chance will be at Unapologetically Black and Fast, February 22nd & 23rd, 2025 (dates subject to change)!
Catch all of the runs from UBAF 2024 here, and all of the Juneteenth 2024 runs here!
The lead of this event, PleasantlyTwstd, has heard and seen the request to add something charity and they promise it is something that they are working on, but to do that we need YOUR HELP!
Make sure that you are sharing with your friends that UBAF and Juneteenth are special occasion events and we would love to expand, but we need more people like you to watch, support, and spread the word.
Can I run on emulator?
For this event YES; just be sure to abide by your respective game/categories rules as it pertains to emulation. If the category says you can't use certain settings for example, then do not use those settings in your run.
What if I don't have any runs but want to contribute to the event?
There are many ways to contribute-reposts, shares, and promotion of the event to your peers is a great boon, clips of the event are always helpful, and commentating for runs are always options. We have a lovely crew that is already on deck for hosting, committee, and management, but providing us your feedback and/or suggestions is always beneficial. While these may not sound like contributions, they absolutely are!
What if something happens the day of my run, and I need to shift my timeslot/ bow out?
As a runner if you ever have conflicts with your run last minute, take them directly to Vanessa (pleasantlytwstd on Discord or @ohitmenessab on Twitter). You will be required to be in the GDQ Hotfix Discord for the event, so Discord communication is the easiest way to let us know and we will work with you as needed to make adjustments.
Does my commentator need to be Black as well?
No; we know that many of these spaces don't have as many Black runners in them, so while it is encouraged it is not required. The goal of the event is to celebrate Black speedrunners, and commentators are doing exactly that by being present, noting key moments, explaining tricks, and giving the runner space to perform!
